I’ve kept getting requests to do a TBT for Death Note and I am here to deliver. It’s been a long while since I’ve watched the anime but I do recall enjoying the first half of the series, anything after episode 15, I think, felt really dry for me. I watched the series during a really dark time in my life where I was fascinated with demons, gods, spirits, etc. But never have I EVER thought about calling upon them, I just found their stories and origins interesting. I don’t know why but I just had a huge interest in the spiritual world at the time.
Here’s the summary from the wiki page:
Light Yagami is a bored young genius who resents all things evil. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers the “Death Note”, a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it. After experimenting with the notebook, Light confirms its authenticity and is joined by an unexpected house guest – the notebook’s previous owner, a shinigami called Ryuk. Light tells Ryuk of his plan to exterminate all the criminals in the world, until only people whom he has judged to be honest and kind remain. Once he finishes creating this utopia, he means to rule over it as what he calls “the god of the new world”.
For me, the characters I really loved were really only a select few. Ryuk was definitely my favorite out of the bunch. He was kind of just like “hey i’m just here for the book man and give me apples”. When I think about it nowadays I have his same kind of mindset, I don’t know whether that’s a good or bad things but take it how you must. I feel like he made the whole anime for me because of his smart ass remarks and his “keep it real” attitude”.
I didn’t choose you. Don’t you see this is all just an accident. You actually thought you were chosen because you’re so smart or something? Don’t be so vain. It just happened to fall around here and you just happen to pick it up, and that’s all there is to it.
Light was ok in my book until he started obsessing over L a little too much, kind of like a crazed Justin Bieber fan. It really makes me wonder about how the human mind works and how we can obsess over something so easily. His love for being “Kira” but having to disguise it really became a bother to me also and it’s kind of what made me lose interest in the anime but I had to finish it anyways.
So my question for you folks is: Should I just give death note another try or was it also easy to lose interest in for you? Until next time!
